DUAL CREDIT PROGRAMS

Working together with CAREERS: Next Generation, there are opportunities for students to study technology careers while earning high school credits and post-secondary credits at the same time. Verify with your regional field director regarding program availability.

I'M INTERESTED IN

Water & Wastewater Operator

Qualified and motivated students can enroll in this technical training program while attending high school. During the two-year program, student earn high school credits while having the chance to meet requirements for a Fundamentals of Water and Wastewater Operations Certificate from NAIT.

CAREER DESCRIPTION

Water and wastewater operators monitor and operate control systems and equipment in water and wastewater treatment plants, and water distribution and wastewater collection systems.

I'M INTERESTED IN

Oil & Gas Production Field Operator

Students enroll in post-secondary courses through NAIT while in high school. Students who start the program in Grade 10 may be eligible for certification as a Production Field Operator upon completion of high school. This program is offered in southeastern Alberta.

CAREER DESCRIPTION

Field production operators are responsible for the initial separation processes or the special treatment required to ensure that impurities such as water, gas and sediments are removed from oil and gas in the field. Once separated, the oil or gas is transported by pipeline to refineries, gas plants or markets.

4th Class Power Engineering

The program is a partnership with Northern Lakes College, Keyano College, NAIT and several industry partners. High school students take additional post-secondary power engineering courses. Those who successfully complete the program are eligible to receive the Fourth Class Power Engineering certification after passing a provincial exam.

CAREER DESCRIPTION

Power engineers supervise, operate and maintain machinery and boilers that provide steam, power, heat, refrigeration and other utility services to industrial and commercial facilities.
